Akpabio Impeachment - Aminu Tambuwal others Meet In Saudi Arabia

Some notable leaders of the Nigerian Senate have been informed on the plot to impeach Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President immediately they resume from their two months annual leave.

At eve of Saturday 16th August, our reporters were informed about the plot and plans of those senators who yet to be fully unveiled though Senator Aminu Tambuwal of PDP from Sokoto State and Abdulaziz Yari of APC from Zamfara with some loyalists are currently meeting in Saudi Arabia, a situation many have criticised as democratic coup.

It is noted that, Senator Abdulaziz Yari have not been pleased with the leadership of Akpabio who defeated him with others as the President of the Senate in the Senate Presidency's election. Yari played the main opposition to Akpabio backed by Tambuwal.

Senator Yari and Tambuwal are both standing committees Chairmen on Water Resources and Housing respectively announced by the current Senate President, Akpabio, before the two months break in August.

The former governor of Zamfara, Senator Yari kicked against the endorsement of Akpabio of Akwa Ibom by his Party (APC) in the Senate during the early June race. That, the position is fits for everyone who have capable hands instead of party endorsement and zoning orchestrated by Tinubu.

Another key Senator in the plot is Mohammed Onawo of PDP from Nasarawa State. Onawo is working hard as report says convincing his colleagues to put pen down their signatures on the impeachment note.

The group Senators alleged and claimed to be fighting for the independence of the Senate arm from Executive under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu who is without check and his aggressive handling of the recent coup in Niger which has high impacts in the bordering Sokoto and other northern regions.

In their words; "he's too subservient to the president and he's not allowing the senate to question the presidency and act as a check".

It is also on record when one Yari's group from Kano was interviewed by Arise TV in June, he informed the presenter about the zoning plan of the Senate Presidency to North. He said, "We did a conventional zoning ourselves, we picked Abdulaziz Yari from the north-west and we are planning to pick deputy senate president from south-east, it shows you that we have done balancing".
