UNIJOS Students Protest School Fees Hike, Demand quick Reversal

The student in union barricaded the gate and entrance to the school in agitation for reversal of the said increment chanting and displaying various placards with various inscriptions.
In our findings, the new school fees plan endorsed by the Registrar of the university, Dr. Rejoice James Songden is stakes at N213,000 fee for 100 and 200 level students while 300 level students and above will now pay N160,000 respectively.
Our reporter gathered that, the Students Union (SUG) once had a meeting with the management and agreed on a particular percent but later got betrayed not considering the economic hardship every Nigerian is currently going through.
In the words of the Union leader, Comrade Longmun Dakon their demand are quite elaborated that; "as a Union, we have been having serious engagements with the university authorities before it was not brought to N110,000", he noted.
Dakon added that, the hike in the school fees is "unaffordable to students. It is on the high side and of course, a lot of students would drop out of school".
On the side of the institution, the Dean of Students Affairs Prof Christopher Piwuna gave the Union an assurance that the fee hike is much a concern to the Unijos management as they are putting every of their demand into consideration.
Prof Christopher in his remarks, the school management and the Students Union's engagements have not yielded the results that they demand over times which is true, ... "But for us, we believe that discussions will always continue", as he cleared the air.
