Rivers Political Crisis: Declare Seat Vacant, PDP Orders Rivers Acting Chairman To Declare In 24 Hours | National Reporters

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat has directed Rivers State acting chairman, Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, to take immediate action within 24 hours to declare vacant the seats of the 27 Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressive Congress.

Pepple Victor Fred, Esq., the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) national legal adviser, issued the warning in a letter addressed to Rivers State acting chairman in on Friday, December 11.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national party criticised the decision of the party's elected members to leave the party for another, despite the fact that there was no crisis in the party from the state to the national headquarters. “It is no longer news that in the morning hours of December 11", 2023, 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, elected under the platform of our party, the People's Democratic Party, dumped our party for the All Progressive Congress (APC).”

"This action is without any justification, as there is no factionalization, fragmentation, splintering, or division within the People Democratic Party (PDP).

Rivers State under your current leadership.”

The legal advice warned that if the acting chairman fails to proceed with declaring their seat vacant within 24 hours, the national secretariat will commence the process. “Kindly take notice that at your refusal, failure, and/or neglect to act accordingly within 24 hours of your receipt of this letter, I shall, acting in my capacity as the Asst. Legal Adviser of our party, The People Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State Chapter, proceed to take the expedient actions for and on behalf of our dear party so as to preserve the integrity and good fortune of The People's Democratic Party,he said.

Recall that the crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly took a new turn on Monday, December 11, 2023, with twenty-seven members defecting from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state to the All Progressives Congress.
